ANDREW ISHEE
BIOGRAPHY
Andrew hails from Laurel, Mississippi where he grew up playing Gospel music in church and with local Christian groups. Andrew’s parents were always involved with music in their church, and this helped to foster Andrew’s interest in music. At age eight Andrew asked his dad to show him some chords on the piano. That night Andrew prayed that God would bless him with the ability to play piano. Since that evening, he has played piano by ear. Lessons did follow when Andrew’s parents realized the talent he’d been blessed with. But he jokes frequently that he didn’t learn enough during his piano lessons to really hurt his playing.
Andrew began playing professionally at age 16 with the Dixie Echoes. He then moved to Asheville, North Carolina two years later to join the famed Kingsmen Quartet. Since then Andrew has played with the Palmetto State Quartet, and presently works with many of the top Gospel recording companies and artists producing and playing piano on countless recordings.
In the arena of accolades: Andrew produced Palmetto State Quartet’s first number one charting Gospel song in 2002. He was a featured columnist for America’s largest Gospel Music publication, The Singing News Magazine. Andrew has been honored by the Gospel Music Association as a Hall of Fame inductee for his association with the Kingsmen Quartet. Andrew has been nominated by the readers of The Singing News Magazine as Gospel Music’s Favorite Pianist for ten consecutive years, Gospel Music’s Horizon Individual, and Favorite Young Artist. The Southern Gospel Music Association has also recognized Andrew as one of the top five pianists in America.
Andrew’s network television appearances include INSP, TBN, The Nashville Network, CMT, GMT, Sky Angel, CBN, and World Harvest TV. Andrew has performed on the Grand Old Opry, and at the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Andrew has certainly played for large audiences, but for large and small venues alike Andrew says “There are two great things about what I get to do: Music and People. And I love them both.”
